My doctor continued to talk, defining my newly diagnosed prehypertension. He expressed how my salt intake effects my blood pressure and how It would be in my best interest to change my diet and start exercising. I was terrified because I knew high blood pressure was serious business.
“Both of my parents are taking medication for high blood pressure,” I thought. “Do I now have high blood pressure as well? Do I have to eat bland food everyday? I’ve never even heard of prehypertension, what in the world is it?"
No, I didn't have high blood pressure, but yes, I was aggravated. I knew there would have to be a lifestyle change on my part because of prehypertension, " a precursor to chronic high blood pressure" and this change would wreak havoc on all of my fun, which was nothing more than a bunch of bad eatinghabits I loved to participate in.

Living Your Best Life with Prehypertension (Part One): Prehypertension Defined
"Your blood pressure is a little higher than I'd like to see. What we’re looking at is prehypertension. I’m going to write you a prescription for hydrochlorathiazide. Take one everyday with orange juice and see me again in six months.”
My doctor continued to talk, defining my newly diagnosed prehypertension. He expressed how my salt intake effects my blood pressure and how It would be in my best interest to change my diet and start exercising. I was terrified because I knew high blood pressure was serious business.

Diet Plans: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
Overviews of the Best and Worst Diet Plans
Nations like USA and Australia are steadily growing bigger, fatter, larger which all equals to more health problems for everyone, so it's virtually no surprise at all that many people publish diet books as a way to earn money. However be aware that very few diet plans and books fail to deliver when it comes to helping you lose weight and keeping you healthy. Yet we don't seem to blame the plan, but ourselves and we just move on to the next plan, hoping that this time things will change and we will lose the weight we desire. So to help you, here is a guide to some of the most popular diet plans and whether they work or not.The Low GI Diet - GOOD
The Low GI diet is based on something called the glycemic index (GI), a rating on how carbohydrates in food affect blood sugar levels. To keep it short, Low-GI foods are usually considered good for our health, and help with our weight because the lower the GI Rating, the more satisfied we are and the longer it takes for us to become hungry again.

Living Your Best Life with Prehypertension (Part Two): Diet and Fitness
So, you’ve found out you have prehypertension and you’re teetering on the border of high blood pressure. Now is a good time to become more concerned about your health.
A typical prehypertension lifestyle change consists of less salt and a modification in your diet. For instance, instead of having thick slab bacon, hash browns and pancakes for breakfast, I'll have fresh fruit, a plain bagel with grape jelly and orange juice.
As an alternative to a greasy gyro sandwich, fries and a soda from my local hole in the wall restaurant, for lunch I may have a George Foreman grilled chicken sandwich, baked french fries and a strawberry smoothie.

Best Diet Plan: Body for Life
The Body for Life diet plan was designed by fitness guru Bill Phillips. It began as a competitive body transformation contest, and eventually evolved into a hugely popular diet plan.
The key advertising technique of Body for Life is the promotion of "before and after" photographs. Although the program is designed to last only 12 weeks, many Body for Life participants show remarkable physical changes after completing the plan. Their photos provide inspiration for beginners who want to similarly transform their bodies.

The Atkins Diet Vs. The South Beach Diet
I hear so much about the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet. They both seem to be so popular with people looking to lose weight. So which one is the right one to go with when choosing a diet plan? When choosing a diet plan, I for one would love to find a diet that let me lose the baby weight in as little as one week. But we all know that does not exist. The ones that do allow you to drop a whole lot of weight real quick are not safe and healthy. So were does one turn when looking for safe and healthy? Did I mention that the diet not only has to be safe and healthy it actually has to work?
So here I am hearing all about the Atkins diet and the South Beach diet on TV, in magazines and on the radio in my car while I am chowing down on McDonald's cheeseburgers. So I decide to do my own research into each one to of these popular diets. What are they, how do they differ from each other and what do they each require of me for me to lose the weight.
What I have found is that there are some similarities with both diets. Medical doctors created them both. They are both best-selling diet books. They both restrict carbohydrates.

Fad Diet Plans Are Scams!
Are They Only for the Lazy and Desperate?
The diet craze in this country is out of control! Every other commercial, every other spam e-mail, and pop-ups galore - all pushing the latest, greatest diet plan. And if those are not about Atkin's diet, South Beach diet, Jenny Craig diet, or Best Life diet, they're trying to push some kind of diet pill like Zantrex and Relacore. I am going to explain why all of these diet fads are scams, preying upon the lazy and desperate. No Exercise Required
One of the biggest selling points these fad diets want us to believe is the one where they tell us that you don't need to exercise or work out. They advertise that all you have to do is "eat the food" or "take the pill" and the balanced meal plan or their patented formula will take care of the rest.

Fit for Life: The Diet that Worked for Me
At the age of 29,I found myself carrying my first child , Being on a diet was the last thing I was thinking of . My brother-in-law was on this diet that he said was the best diet he has ever been on .It was more of a way of life then a diet .I asked him a lot of questions about the diet and what was so great about it. After all, dieting can be a real chore to most people. It had never worked for me because it often got boring after time, and cutting specific foods out of your diet can get to be quite tedious.
The diet that my brother-in-law introduced me to was the Fit For Life Diet. The thing that I could not seem to grasp at first was how this so called Fit For Life stood out from all of the others. What made it work so well, while there were so many other diets out on the market that were nothing but hype and did not do what they claimed to do? I debated whether or not I should try it to see if it worked, since my brother-in-law seemed to be losing weight at an amazing rate.
I decided that I was going to sit down and read the book that he lent me. The book was called Fit For Life, written by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond.I read the book in one afternoon . It was very simple t o understand . The diet was mainly based on food combination and having to eat them at the right time of day . So I decided to try it . But since I was carrying my child and thought that a diet was out of the question for me, I didn't think about it for a couple of weeks .

Review of the Fit for Life Diet
Fit For Life is a diet that truly changed my life. Not only because it helped me to lose weight and get healthy, but because it is actually a diet that is sustainable as a lifestyle change. Most diets are so restrictive, they tell you what to eat, how much to eat, how many calories you can have, how many carbs you can have, etc... These sorts of diets never worked for me. I always hated being restricted on how much I could eat or what I could eat.
With Fit For Life there is no calorie restrictions and you can eat pretty much anything you want. The only difference is that you need to eat those foods at the proper times and in the proper combinations. Doing so will allow you to eat to your hearts content and never worry about gaining weight. No counting calories and no worrying about fat or carbs ever again. This seems like a dream come true for any dieter.
What is surprising to me is this book has been out since the 1980s. I see all these fad diets that have come and gone since then and have not been able to hold up to the stand of time. This program, which worked back in the 1980s is just as effective and powerful today.

My Journey to Take Control of My Weight, My Money and My Life
Two Years to Physically Fit and Financially Free
Since about four years ago when I realized that I was indeed going to turn 30 (Who wouldn't thought it could happen to me?) I have been on a self-improvement kick. In the last few years I have read many, many, many self-help books and some slow changes have occurred but something still hadn't "clicked". No light bulb moment for me, no Eureka! I've got it!In the last couple of months That changed as four books have come into my life, quite inexplicably, that have shown me passion and fire and have urged me to change my life and now. The first was an adorable book I can across while looking for self-help books at the library called Do It! Let's Get Off Our Buts! by John-Roger McWilliams. Boy, did this book know me or what? It talks about setting goals and living your best life, the life you really want to live. It was from this book that I finally narrowed down what I really wanted most out of life, to be financially free from debt, and start saving and investing so my husband and I can enjoy life while leaving a decent legacy for my children.
The next book that I must admit changed my life was You Can Do It! (Are you beginning to see a theme here?) started by Lauren Catuzzi Grandcolas, who tragically died in 9/11, and finished by her family. This book is set up as a badge book "for grown-up girl scouts" with all sorts of exciting badges that you can try for from a pilot badge to a movie producing badge to a health badge to...you guessed it, a financial badge. The painful part of reading this book was realizing that not only wasn't I healthy and fit enough to complete most of the badges, but my finances were such a mess that I couldn't really afford to invest the time and money to chasing my dreams.
